When I lived on Crete (1985-91), I used to see these flowers around Lake Kourna and in the Samarian Gorge. They bloomed fairly early in the spring, but rather than having a neutral or pleasant scent, they smelled like rotting flesh. I don't know if this is an official name, but we called them Dragon Lilies. They are a beautiful plant, I remember the first time I saw one, a friend and I tried to dig it up for a house plant, but the roots went too deep into the rocky soil. Our lack of success prove fortuitous since we didn't know about the flower's horrible smell once it started to wilt
